PPNI evaluates that the government is not strict in the elaboration and implementation of policies.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YAKARTA – The Executive Board of the Indonesian National Nurses Association (DPP PPNI) expressed disappointment at the administration of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in handling the Covid-19 pandemic. They assess that the government is not strict in the elaboration and implementation of policies.

“Disappointed, of course, we are disappointed that we want this outbreak to end soon,” said Jajat Sudrajat, Head of PPNI’s Covid-19 Management Team. Republika, in Jakarta, Friday (5/15).

This was relayed by Jajat regarding the density that occurred at Soekarno-Hatta Airport on Thursday (5/14). The density occurred after the government allowed the reopening of the air transport mode at the airport.

Overall, Jajat considered, the government did not have a clear and firm step in dealing with Covid-19. Meanwhile, patients with viral infections that first appeared in Wuhan, China continue to grow every day until now.

Jajat said the density due to the tail was very risky and had the potential for spread and transmission of the Covid-19 virus. He should have added that the government could be firm and clear in every policy carried out.

“Don’t confuse the public, especially healthcare workers,” said the PPNI Organization Department member.

In his policy, President Jokowi had prohibited residents from going home, but not coming home. Over time, the government issued operating licenses for various transports to transport passengers out of the area with a note that they must obey the health protocol.

Later, Polda Metro Jaya also allowed the community to travel to visit the local homecoming during Lebaran. However, they called on the community to continue to comply with existing rules of large-scale social limitation (PSBB).

Related to this, Jajat said it could be done. He stated, provided this was done by keeping a distance and wearing a mask.

“The key to disconnecting the transmission is keeping the distance and the mask. Anything can be done as long as both are maintained,” he said.

The passenger queue occurred at Soekarno-Hatta airport on Thursday (5/14) morning. A photo showing an accumulation of potential passengers regardless of social distance when the Covid-19 pandemic circulates viral on social media.

“The queue of potential airplane passengers at the travel document inspection post is located at Terminal 2 of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport at 0400 WIB,” said Thursday the Senior Manager of the Communications and Legal Affairs Branch of the Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Febri Toga (5/14).

Febri explained, until 0500 WIB, the queue had just ended. Febri said AP II staff had done everything possible to organize the queue. However, there are many potential passengers arriving at Terminal 2, Gate 4.

Most passengers have airline tickets for flights between 06.00 WIB and 08.00 WIB. According to Febri, the same flights included 11 Lion Air Group flights and two Citilink Indonesia flights.

Accumulation also occurs because each potential passenger must verify the integrity of the documents as a condition for processing check in. “The verification of the documents is carried out by joint staff from various agencies included in the working group to speed up the handling of Covid-19 at the inspection post,” Febri said.

In relation to the incident, the Ministry of Transport (Kemenhub) received reports from airlines that did not implement the Ministerial Transport Regulation No. 18 of 2020 on Transport Control in the Context of Prevention of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (Covid- 19). The Director General of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Transport, Novie Riyanto, said that the violation was related to non-compliance with the application of maintaining physical distance.

“Similarly with exceeding the seating capacity that has been specified in the applicable regulations,” Novie said Thursday (5/14).

Permenhub Number 18 of 2020, Article 14, point b, establishes that the maximum number of passengers is only 50 percent of the total seating capacity when applying the physical distance. He assured that the Ministry of Transport would take firm measures against airline operators who violated the provisions on limiting the number of passengers in the performance of flight services.

“Once it is found to be in violation of the rules, we will apply strict sanctions in accordance with applicable regulations,” said Novie.
