MUI Fatwa allows Eid Al-Fitr prayer outside the home, specifically for Covid-19 controlled areas

YAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) allows Eid prayer to take place in fields, mosques, or prayer rooms, especially for people living in areas with controlled Covid-19 outbreaks.

An area is considered to be under the control of a Covid-19 outbreak if the rate of transmission of the coronavirus in the region shows a decrease.

This was stated in MUI Fatwa No. 28 of 2020 on the orientation of takbir and Eid prayer during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, for people living in areas where Covid-19 has not been controlled, Eid prayer can be done at home.

“Eid al-Fitr prayers can be done at home in congregation with family members or individually, especially if you are in the uncontrolled Covid-19 area.”

The implementation of the Eid prayer, both in the mosque and at home, should continue to implement health protocols and prevent possible transmission.
