YAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The coordinating minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, explained the government’s reason to increase BPJS health rates again amid the Covid-19 crown pandemic.
According to him, the rate increase is to maintain the operational continuity of Health BPJS.
“Based on what has been published, and of course, this is to maintain the sustainability of BPJS Health,” Airlangga said in the video. conference after a limited meeting with President Jokowi, Wednesday (05/13/2020).

Although the tariffs were increased, Airlangga ensured that the government continued to provide subsidies.
He said subsidies and contributions are still needed for BPJS Health to continue to function.
“Well, these are still receiving subsidies. While the others certainly become contributions that are expected to carry out sustainability rather than BPJS Health operations,” he said.
Previously, President Joko Widoo again raised BPJS health rates.
This was stated in Perpres Number 64 of 2020 regarding the Second Amendment to Perpres Number 82 of 2018 regarding Health Insurance.

The Perpres was signed by Jokowi on May 5, 2020. This rate increase applies to independent participants of non-salaried workers (PBPU) and non-workers (BP).
The increase in BPJS health rates stipulated in Article 34 is detailed below:
-The contribution of Class I independent participants increased to Rp 150,000, from currently Rp 80,000.
-The number of independent Class II participants increased to Rp 100,000, from the current Rp 51,000.
-The contribution of independent Class III participants also increased from Rp. 25,500 to Rp. 42,000. However, the government granted a subsidy of Rp 16,500 so that what was paid remained Rp 25,500. However, in 2021 the subsidy paid by the government will be reduced to Rp. 7,000, for which the participants must pay Rp. 35,000.
