Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia– The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) asks the public to prepare for an increase in positive cases of coronavirus (Covid-19) next week.

In an online hearing with Commission VIII of the House of Representatives that took place online, acting BNPB deputy Dody Ruswandi said the increase in the number of Covid-19 positive people was targeting up to 40,000 patients . According to him, the increase was made so that the end of the coronavirus pandemic could be done more quickly.

“Later, ladies and gentlemen, you will not be surprised that next week will tend to increase a lot. Technically, it should be, because we can accelerate the completion of Covid-19,” said Dody, quoted by CNNIndonesia on Tuesday (12/5 ).

“I hope we can reach 40,000, so that it can represent the red areas that we think those regions represent,” he added.

He explained that the increase in the number of cases was in line with the addition of the Covid-19 test. According to Dody, the Covid-19 Management Acceleration Task Force is increasing capacity both in terms of laboratories and human resources. The goal, he continued, is to increase controllability starting this weekend.

Dody also said that if this massive test is successful, the Covid-19 peak curve is likely to occur in early June 2020. According to him, after that, the Covid-19 curve may have a downward slope.

“If the peak is there (early June), we must also be prepared to the hospital’s ability. God willing, later if all these tests are completed and the peak can be reached, and hopefully it can gently tilt down.” Dody said.

As of Tuesday (05/12/2020) at 12.00 WIB, positive cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia reached 14,749 people. The number increased 484 people compared to the previous day.

Meanwhile, recovering patients increased 182 people to 3,063 people. The death case increased by 16 people, so the total reached 1,007 people.
