Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said the actual number of positive cases of the Corona virus in Jakarta was higher than the government announced. Anies estimated that the number of COVID-19 cases in Jakarta could reach 40,000 to 80,000 cases.

“There are two different things here, namely the COVID-19 case and the test results. What is shown to the public is the test results,” Anies said when interviewed by Sydney Morning Herald journalist James Massola, broadcast on Monday on the YouTube account of the Jakarta Provincial Government DKI. 11/5/2020).

Anies explained that the number that the government gave every day to the public was the result of the COVID-19 test. Test results depend on the ability of the test. If a country can only do a small test, the number of test results is also small. However, the actual number of COVID-19 cases is estimated to be greater than the test results.

“As for the actual number of cases, I mean funeral services,” Anies said.

Anies based her estimate of the true number of Corona cases on burial data. There was an increase in numbers from February to March. In February, the figure was around 2,700 funerals, as was the usual condition. In the third week and March, the number increased to 4,300 funerals. In April, the figure became 4,590 funerals.

“If the CFR (case fatality rate) is between 5% and 10%, then the actual case hits 8,000 or 9,000. Oh, sorry, maybe 40,000 to 80,000,” Anies said.
