Jakarta, CNN Indonesia – Vice President Ma’ruf Amin stated that academics in many countries are reviewing their religious or religious views on how to worship to adapt to a pandemic Corona virus (Covid-19).

One of the edicts that has been reviewed by world academics is related to how to deal with Covid-19 prioritizing the safety of people.

“Adopting a fatwa in the current condition of the Covid-19 pandemic makes safeguarding the safety of the soul the most important consideration in establishing a fatwa, because [nyawa] there is no substitute, “he said, in his remarks at the 40th Al Baraka Islamic Economic Symposium held online from Saudi Arabia on Saturday (9/5).

“While maintaining the continuity of religion comes later, because there are alternatives,” Ma’ruf continued.

According to him, later new fatwas through the ijtihad process or efforts to reach religious conclusions will be a guide for Muslims in their respective countries.

Some people affected by Covid-19 will also be treated in these fatwas, for example, medical personnel, the sick and also Muslims in general.

“The new fatwa is a guide for Muslims in their respective countries, how to carry out worship in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Ma’ruf.

He also emphasized that basically the teachings of Islam were revealed so as not to complicate adherents. Therefore, practicing worship can adjust the conditions.

“The abnormal condition may be in the form of masyaqqah or dharurah syar’iyyah, which are reasons for the existence of relief (rukhshah) in the performance of religious teachings,” he continued.

These two things, he said, could be a source of relief in the practice of Islam that must have flexibility in its implementation.

Previously, the Secretary General of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Anwar Abbas, called on the government to be firm and not confuse the public in handling Corona.

Because the government is easing large-scale social restrictions (PSBBs), the opening of airports, to operating permits for all modes of public transportation amid a ban on welcome requests and health priority.

Assertiveness, he said, “It is very important that the MUI be used as a basis to explain and determine what attitudes and actions people should take related to the existing fatwa.”

Previously, President Jokowi claimed to prioritize health factors in Corona management. However, he and his subordinates continue to pose financial problems. Some parties call his policies inconsistent and half-hearted in Corona’s handling.
