Spitzer telescope makes the California nebula, here’s the look

CALIFORNIA, iNews.id – NASA shares the latest mosaic captured by the Spitzer Space Telescope. The Spitzer telescope was actually retired in January.

NASA deactivated the Spitzer Space Telescope on January 30, 2020 after it launched in 2003. However, before it was deactivated, NASA last used its telescope to take pictures of the California Nebula on January 25.

The images are sent back to the team on Earth. Then the telescope permanently darkens, so its mission ends.

Last weekend, NASA shared a mosaic made from this latest set of images. The image shows bright stars and samples of cyan and red versions of images captured by the telescope during the sky scan.

These two colored ends represent the two different captured wavelengths, one at 3.6 microns and the other at 4.5 microns. Capturing at different wavelengths is important because they reveal different features and objects, resulting in a more robust and complete final image.

The middle part of the gray mosaic shows what two different wavelengths capture when combined. Although it is difficult to say, this image shows the spiral arms of the background galaxy captured in the image and the nebula itself.
