MATA INDONESIA, YAKARTA-For almost 10 years, for the first time, the US space agency (NASA) will launch a manned mission from its homeland.
The mission will take two astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS) using rockets and spacecraft scheduled to plan from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, on May 27.
The rocket and spacecraft were developed by the private company SpaceX.
NASA has been using Russian rockets for manned flights since the shuttle retired in 2011.
If successful, SpaceX led by billionaire businessman Elon Musk becomes the first private company to send astronauts to NASA into space.
The Falcon Nine rocket and Crew Dragon spacecraft will launch from Pad 39A, the historic track at Kennedy Space Center that was previously used for the Apollo and space shuttle missions.
Astronauts Bob Behken and Doug Hurley will travel 24 hours to reach the ISS. An American astronaut and two Russian cosmonauts are currently on the ISS.
