In the study, the scientists involved 125 patients with COVID-19, all of whom were treated with remdesivir, which is not currently approved in the United States to treat any disease.
Of the 125 patients, 113 people had serious illnesses, making it difficult for them to breathe. In a video discussion, Kathleen Mullane, a professor of medicine, said that most of the patients who used the medication improved enough to be discharged from the hospital, and only two people died.

Mullane did not discuss the details of the results, but in a statement, a university spokesman said, the partial data from the ongoing clinical trials were, by definition, incomplete and should not be used to draw conclusions about the safety or efficacy of the drug. treatment.
According to them, the information in this internal forum was only for fellow researchers and drawing conclusions at this point was too early and scientifically not good.
Remdesivir works by mimicking one of the genetic elements used to cause the coronavirus. This drug was originally developed by Gilead for the treatment of Ebola, but when the trial was initially disappointing, the company delayed the development of the drug.
