Jakarta: The mysterious boom that was heard in Jabodetabek on Saturday April 11, 2020 in the morning caused a commotion among the people. The Head of the Volcano Mitigation Division of the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation or the PVMBG of the ESDM Ministry, Hendra Gunawan, said that the thud was heard at the Mount Gede and Mount Salak observation posts.
However, Hendra estimates that the boom came from lightning rain in the two mountains.
“At the Mount Salak Post thunder was identified, but the weather did not rain around the pole,” Hendra said Saturday (04/11/2020).
Certainly, the condition of the two mountains is still safe, that is, it does not experience an eruption. Although the activity of Mount Anak Krakatau in the Sunda Strait did not affect the activities of the two mountains in the Bogor area.
PVMBG confirmed that the strong explosion heard in Jakarta from Depok, West Java, was not due to Mount Anak Krakatau. Because, the eruption on the mountain is Strombolian, so it does not produce a strong explosion.
He did not rule out the possibility of the sound of a blow in the early hours of the morning from a lightning strike.
“Speaking of what’s possible, it can, even though it all started with the complexity of the sound wave propagation problem,” Hendra said.
Previously, according to the testimony of Jabodetabek residents, the sound of the blows was similar to an explosion that came from far away.
Shortly after the boom was heard, the community was shocked by the news of Mount Anak Krakatau erupting. So the assumption begins to emerge that the phenomenon of the mysterious sound of the boom stemmed from the eruption of the mountain.
