The government officially bans all activities carried out by the Front of Islamic Defenders (FPI). The government has also opened up about a number of considerations to ban the organization led by Habib Rizieq Shihab.
The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Mahfud Md, initially made an announcement on the status of the FPI. The government officially bans the FPI!
“According to the decision of MK 82 / PUU112013 of December 23, 2014, the government prohibits the activities of the FPI and will stop the activities carried out by the FPI because the FPI no longer has legal personality, neither as a mass organization nor as an organization ordinary, “Mahfud Md told a press conference at the Coordinating Ministry of Health. Polhukam, Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Wednesday (12/30).
At a press conference on the FPI ban, Mahfud Md was accompanied by several high-ranking state institutions. Among them are TNI Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, National Police Chief General Idham Azis, BIN Chief Budi Gunawan, Menkum HAM Yasonna Laoly, Interior Minister Tito Karnavian, KSP Chief Moeldoko, Minister of Communication and Information Johnny G Plate, Attorney General ST Burhanuddin, Head of BNPT Komjen Boy Rafli, and Head of PPATK.
Not only that, the government also prohibits the public from participating in FPI activities. The community is also asked not to use the FPI symbol or attribute.
Mahfud then explained that the government had taken a number of steps and considerations regarding the FPI ban.
In response to the government’s decision, FPI will immediately discuss the government’s decision with Habib Rizieq.
“Be patient. I want to speak to Habib first,” FPI Deputy Secretary General (Sekum) Aziz Yanuar told reporters on Wednesday (12/30/2020).
Habib Rizieq is known to be currently detained at the Polda Metro Jaya Detention Center. Aziz will meet with Habib Rizieq at the Polda Metro Jaya Detention Center.
On another occasion, the FPI legal team, Sugito Atmo Prawiro, said Habib Rizieq was relaxed about the government’s response to the dissolution of the FPI. Sugito said that FPI would sue for this dissolution in the PTUN.
“Habib is relaxed, these six institutions are dissolving the FPI. Habib sees this as a political decision against the FPI. But the product is the product of the state administration, so then we will sue the PTUN against the decision to dissolve and ban”, Sugito said when contacted Wednesday. (12/30/2020).
Sugito said that if the use of the name FPI were banned, FPI would change its name. Sugito said that many options would be made to continue the same fight with FPI.
