34,000 ABK migrants and workers return to Indonesia, Jokowi: Health protocol must be strict!

KOMPAS.TV – President Joko Widodo requested strict health protocols in the return process of 34 thousand migrant workers and crew, in May and June.

The President requested that quarantine facilities and referral hospitals be prepared for returning Indonesian migrant workers.

“I also received a report, in May and June there were approximately 34,000 Indonesian migrant workers whose contracts would expire,” said Jokowi.

He indicated that several return points that should be monitored were Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Banten, Bali Ngurah Rai Airport, Jakarta Tanjung Priok Port, Bali Benoa Port and Tanjung Balai North Sumatra Port.

The Foreign Ministry said that as of May 10, more than 80,000 Indonesian citizens abroad had returned to Indonesia.

A total of more than 72 thousand of them are Indonesian workers in Malaysia, and more than 14 thousand are ship or crew workers.
