Brussels –
The European Union (EU) Ambassador will hold a crisis meeting in Brussels, Belgium, to discuss travel restrictions to the UK. Travel restrictions to the UK should be implemented after the emergence of a new type of Corona virus that is suspected of being highly contagious.
Reporting from AFP on Monday (12/21/2020), the meeting will take place today. Several EU countries such as Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy and the Netherlands have announced flight delays and travel by land and sea by train and ferry to the UK.
The ban will last one or two days. This was done in an effort to prevent the threat of spreading the new type of Corona virus.
An EU official said ambassador representatives from 27 countries would meet under an integrated political crisis response mechanism designed to react quickly to crises. They will examine measures such as a flight ban and the use of PCR tests for people arriving from the UK.
The meeting came after British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he was imposing zoning restrictions on London and much of South East England due to the new strain of the virus. He said the variant could be up to 70 percent more contagious.
Preliminary data shows that there has been tension in the capital and the number of cases is increasing despite increased restrictions. He and government health officials said there was no indication that the new variant was more lethal or resistant to use of the vaccine.
The World Health Organization (WHO) said it was analyzing British data to see if Britain’s uncontrolled infection rate was the result of stronger transmission.
