Reflecting on the hundreds of doctors who died from Covid-19, what were the impacts?

The mental burden of another doctor

Dr. Mahlil Ruby, secretary of PB IDI’s Physician Death Defense and Audit Team, said there were several impacts related to the deaths of hundreds of doctors due to Covid-19.

Ruby said that the doctors who died were not only doctors who cared for Covid-19 patients, but also those who were not specifically treating Covid-19.

Therefore, it is detrimental to the state to lose the best sons and daughters who have been educated for a dozen years to become trustworthy doctors.

“The investment in medical education is quite expensive. Furthermore, there are many doctors who die as superspecialists or specialist consultants. Educating a doctor to become a superspecialist takes 12 to 15 years. So the state actually loses by losing professional staff to serve the people, “he said. Ruby when contacted Kompas.com, Tuesday (9/1/2020).

The next shock, Ruby continued, of the death of hundreds of doctors due to Covid-19 infection was related to the mental burden on other doctors.

Therefore, other doctors may experience anxiety and worry about contracting Covid-19, which has an impact on the comfort of work.

“This burden increases labor inconvenience and affects services,” Ruby added.

So, Ruby continued, the next shock is that it will affect other healthcare workers.

According to IDI records, many health workers were afraid of being beaten, so many private hospital nurses resigned.

“An example is a hospital. Of course, it will once again have an impact on Covid-19 patient services as cases increase,” he explained.

Not only does it have an impact on fellow healthcare workers, family physicians currently on duty also feel anxious when they release their family members to the battlefield.

“If your husband, wife, father or child will come back safe and sound until the war is over or dies. This is really like war,” Ruby said.

In line with Ruby, the head of the Covid-19 Working Group for the Indonesian Physicians Association (IDI), Zubairi Djoerban, also relayed the same.

According to Zubairi, until this news was published, 102 doctors had died from being infected with Covid-19.

“Today (Tuesday, September 1, 2020) 102 doctors have died,” Zubairi said when contacted the same day.
