PADANG, KOMPAS.com – The director of the Central General Hospital (RSUP) M Djamil Padang Yusirwan apologized to the family of the baby who died a month due to alleged medical negligence.

The baby named Isyana from a married couple, Fery Hermansyah and Rydha, died on Wednesday (04/29/2020).

“We apologize to all parties, especially the families of Ridha Afrila Dina Putri baby patients who are not satisfied with the conditions,” Yusirwan said in a written statement on Sunday (03/05/2020).

According to Yusirwan, there were several problems in handling the one-month-old baby. One of them is the referral system from the network hospital to the M Djamil Padang Hospital, which is still weak.

Yusirwan claimed, M Djamil General Hospital and network hospitals in West Sumatra have agreed on rules for referring patients to the Covid-19 referral hospital.

Before referring a patient, the network hospital must submit preliminary patient exam data.

In the case of baby Isyana, the network hospital did not send complete data. So that one-month-old baby must pass a series of tests to determine his condition.

“If this is not true and the patient is already in a referral hospital, of course, there should be a series of examinations to determine the patient’s condition,” Yusirwan explained.

That, Yusirwan said, made Isyana’s baby seem ignored because she was awaiting state determination.

Additionally, there was a misunderstanding between the baby’s family and the hospital staff.

Based on the test results, the baby Isyana was determined to be PDP Covid-19. However, the family did not allow the medical team to have a swab test.

“This is happening, in addition, this is aggravated by the condition of the family that does not want to swab the patient, because the results of the examination of the patient, he (the baby) was determined PDP Covid-19”, Yusirwan.
