Former cricketer Yuvraj Singh took to social media today to announce that instead of celebrating his birthday this year, he wished for a speedy resolution of the ongoing conflict between farmers and the central government. He also distanced himself from his father Yograj Singh’s statements in which he endorsed athletes returning their awards to support the upheaval.
In a statement he shared on Twitter, Yuvraj Singh said that “without a doubt, farmers are the lifeblood of the nation and he believes that the problem could be solved through peaceful dialogue.”
“Birthdays are an opportunity to fulfill a wish or wish and this birthday, instead of celebrating it, I only wish and pray for a speedy resolution of the ongoing conversations between our farmers and our government,” he posted on Twitter at the stroke of midnight .
Yuvraj Singh said: “I am saddened and upset by the statements made by Mr. Yograj Singh. I wish to clarify that his comments have been made on an individual basis and my ideologies are not the same in any way.”

This comes after Yograj Singh on Monday urged the central government to listen to farmers’ demands and backed athletes who were returning their prizes to show support for protesting farmers.
“Farmers are demanding the right thing, the government must listen to them. It is time for the government to present solutions in this regard and I support all those athletes who are returning their prestigious award ”, Yograj Singh had said.
Boxer Vijender Singh, who joined the farmers’ agitation on the Singhu border (Haryana-Delhi border), had said on Sunday that he would return his prize to Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna if the new agricultural laws are not withdrawn.
Former national boxing coach Gurbaksh Singh Sandhu had also decided to return his Dronacharya award to show solidarity with the restless farmers.
Yuvraj Singh concluded his statement by reminding people that the “Covid-19 pandemic is not over yet”, and urged people to take precautions to combat the infectious virus, adding the slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan! Jai Hind! ”
Meanwhile, a student leader from the University of Delhi sent a legal notice to Yograj Singh on Sunday for allegedly delivering a “highly blasphemous, inflammatory and derogatory” speech, of which several videos were seen on social media.
Thousands of farmers have gathered in and around Delhi to protest against the three agricultural laws, passed at the Monsoon Session of Parliament in September by oral vote despite objections raised by the opposition.
Farmers protest against the Agricultural Products Trade and Trade (Promotion and Facilitation) Act 2020, the 2020 Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Guarantee and Agricultural Services, and the Essential Products (Amendment) Act of 2020.
