One of the most successful and beloved superstars in WWE history, John Cena had a major influence on the age of attitude and the PG era of the organization. The 16-time WWE champion was the main attraction of countless PPVs. One of the most beloved superstars in WWE also has plenty of criticism that blamed him for using his influence to dictate the stories.
In the past, many WWE superstars have also called Cena for ruining other superstars’ momentum. Cena defeated the up-and-coming Alex Riley, Cena defeated Rusev at Wrestlemania, Cena defeated R-Truth, and those countless stories have led many fans to believe that Cena was in control of the narratives in WWE. However, WWE Hall of Fame member Jim Ross does not support these allegations. In the recent episode of Grilling JR, Ross talked about the influence Cena had on the backstage and whether he played a major role in Bella Twins’ success in WWE.
Jim Ross appreciated the good work Cena has done outside of the WWE ring. Ross said:
Should I have had influence behind the scenes? Absolutely. He encourages his best men who have achieved that success to return to the company in various ways. One of those things is leadership, being a mentor, providing ideas, encouraging talents, training them, etc., etc., and John did a great job on that. ”

Jim Ross talks about how John Cena influenced other superstars
Ross thinks it’s Vince who decides if a certain superstar needs a push to become a fan favorite.
“If you had a girlfriend who looked like Nikki Bella, would you pressure her to get a better concert or more exposure? Hell yeah! Are you crazy? Of course. It will be Vince’s call at the end of the day, but in short, I never saw her in one position, and her sister, they didn’t fit in. They weren’t skilled fighters, they weren’t Jackie Moore, Becky Lynch or Charlotte, they were rides. ” Ross added.
Speaking about Cena’s influence on the careers of other superstars in WWE, Ross stated:
“I don’t think John has used his influence in a negative way to help someone who didn’t deserve help.” Did it help some people? Hell yeah! But I think everyone deserved a chance to be recognized, and all he did was say, hey, I think we could do business with this person, or you could do some business with this person, and his opinion counted, so he used no nothing bad “.
