New Delhi:

On Wednesday, the Delhi High Court refused to interfere with the AAP government’s decision to ban Chhath Puja celebrations in public places such as ponds and riverbanks due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The high court said that the third wave of infection was already underway in the national capital and that allowing a large gathering would cause people to become “super spreaders.”

A court of Hima Kohli and Subramonium Prasad judges dismissed a petition from Durga Jan Seva Trust, challenging the Nov. 10 order of the chairman of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) not to allow any gatherings in public places for Chhath Puja. November 20th.

The trust requested permission to hold a 1,000-person gathering for Chhath Puja.

To this, the bank commented: “Oh really! Today when the Delhi government does not allow marriages with more than 50 people, you want only 1,000 people. How is that possible?”

The court said authorities approved the order after considering the spread of the infection in Delhi and that the request was unfounded.

The higher court said it appeared that the petitioner was unaware of the COVID-19 situation.

“The infection rate ranges from 7,800 to 8,593 … the mortality rate is double figures. There are 42,000 active cases,” he noted.
