‘You should have come sooner’: Delhi HC refuses to continue streaming Netflix movie ‘Gunjan Saxena – The Kargil Girl

The Delhi High Court refused to suspend the broadcast of the Netflix movie ‘Gunjan Saxena – The Kargil Girl’ on Wednesday.

Judge Rajiv Shakdher refused to approve an interim injunction at this stage, declaring that the guilty plea should have been filed earlier as the film had already been released. The court has sought answers from Dharma Production and Netflix on the guilty plea and released the matter for an additional hearing on September 18.

Additional Attorney General Sanjay Jain, representing the Center, argued that the film has damaged the image of the Indian Air Force as it shows that the force is gender-biased, which is not correct.

The court was hearing a plea from the defense ministry alleging that the film’s creators sought the IAF’s help to make the film about the real life of an Air Force officer, but kept the IAF in the dark about the The film’s true intention, that is, to “show them in a negative light based on misleading and manipulative facts.”

The court said it was of the opinion that former flight lieutenant Gunjan Saxena should also be a party to the lawsuit and sent him a notice, requesting his response.

The film was released on the Over The Top (OTT) platform on August 12.
