The atmosphere at the team meeting was optimistic as India had written one of the most remarkable comebacks in cricket history to beat Australia at the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne by 8 wickets. India completed the victory on Tuesday after shooting a 70-run target with relative ease. It was heartening to see the team fight back and deliver in a big way, especially after they were packed for their lowest test score of 36 in Adelaide.
Rohit did not play the first 2 tryouts as the starting batter was recovering from a hamstring injury suffered during the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL). Rohit was not part of the limited overs series and was in rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
Rohit passed a fitness test and arrived in Sydney earlier this month, but was unable to join the team ahead of the Melbourne Test due to strict quarantine rules. Rohit spent 14 days in quarantine in Sydney.
In particular, there has been a change of itinerary for teams from India and Australia as they will arrive in Sydney on January 4 only. They were expected to arrive in Sydney on December 31, but the Covid-19 situation has forced a change in their plans.
Sydney has held on to the third test despite the increase in Covid-19 cases in the city, Cricket Australia confirmed on Tuesday. Melbourne, which hosted the just-concluded Boxing Day test, was kept on hold.
