NEW DELHI: Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh visited the farmers’ protest site on the Singhu (Delhi-Haryana) border on Saturday.

Addressing the farmers who had piled up on the border in protest against the farm laws, he said: “My hat is off to all of you, farmers, you have created a new story. This story would be told to future generations. The problems of the Farmers shouldn’t be misled by just anyone. ”

He added: “We only have one request from the Center … please comply with the demands of our farmers. Everyone is sitting here in peace and the whole country is with the farmers. This turmoil is about the farmers. Things are twisted in Twitter but the truth is that the farmers are protesting peacefully, nobody is talking about bloodshed here, “Dosanjh said.

Dosanjh has been very vocal about the farmers’ protests and has constantly been giving his followers updates on the protests through social media. Besides Dosanjh, other actors and singers have also supported farmers’ protests, including Ammy Virk, Himanshi Khurana, and Jassi Gill.

The fifth round of talks between leaders of farmers groups and central government ministers began on Saturday in Vigyan Bhawan here to end the stalemate on new farm laws. A written reply to the minutes of the last meeting was given to the farmers after the farmers’ representatives asked the Government for a timely written reply.

Farmers said they need a solution / compromise. They said they don’t want any more discussions and they want to know what the government has decided on the farmers’ demand.

On December 3, farmers held the fourth round of talks with the Center and said the government had talked about introducing some amendments to the farm laws. In the fourth round of the meeting, peasant leaders suggested that the government hold a special session of Parliament and sought the abolition of the three agricultural laws.

Meanwhile, protesting farmers had called for a nationwide lockdown on December 8.

Farmers protest against the Agricultural Products Trade and Trade (Promotion and Facilitation) Act of 2020, the Farmers’ Agreement (Empowerment and Protection) on Price Guarantee and the Agricultural Services Act of 2020 and the Essential Products Act (Amendment ) of 2020.
