Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath gave his approval on Monday to change the name of a museum under construction dedicated to the Mughal empire in Agra after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Yogi ordered the name change after a development work review meeting at the Agra division via video conference. The prime minister said that the Mughal Museum will be named after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
“It is necessary to promote themes that are the pride of the nation, except the symbols of the slavery mentality. The Mughals cannot be our role models. Ideas of nationalism must be encouraged. Shivaji Maharaj is our hero,” Adityanath said. .
The museum being built at the eastern gate of the Taj Mahal will display artifacts and documents related to Shivaji along with the history of the Mughal rule in India.
During an earlier meeting chaired by Jitendra Kumar, Senior Secretary for Tourism, officials were instructed to build a gallery in honor of Shivaji.
Documents relating to Shivaji’s connection to Agra and his exile will be displayed in the gallery. The museum is being built near Shilpagram at a cost of Rs 140 million. The state government also plans to build a center dedicated to Zardozi art and marble inlays in the museum.
