Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has filed a patent for a smartphone with a rotating camera system that acts both as the primary shooter and for the selfie. The patent for a rotary camera module has been filed with the National Intellectual Property Administrations of China.
According to the patent images, the smartphone would consist of two parts. This includes that the bottom half is the largest portion, while the smallest half houses the camera module.
The last portion of the camera module can be rotated, bringing the rear camera module to the front to act as a self-portrait, GizmoChina reports. The torsion mechanism occurs horizontally, which means that it rotates on its own axis and is linked by a hinge mechanism at the bottom.
In addition, the company also patented a foldable smartphone with five pop-up camera setups. According to the patent, this folding phone has an outward folding screen and depending on how a user holds it, the five cameras can be either rear cameras or front cameras.
The sketches of the device suggest that it will have very thin bezels with no notch on the screen.
