Xbox Series X games: each title confirmed for 2020 and beyond

[ad_1]

Microsoft’s Xbox Series X is slated to launch later this year, so it’s time to see what Xbox X Series games await in the launch beyond.

So far we’ve seen the design of the console, we’ve been given a breakdown of the specs, and we’ve seen the minor tweaks made to the next-gen Xbox controller. And the Xbox Series X is shaping up to be a very impressive console from Microsoft, and one that has so far outperformed the PS5 with only pure specs aside from SSD performance.

But we haven’t seen much when it comes to in-game footage or a solid roster of launch games for Microsoft’s next-gen console, aside from key titles like Halo Infinite. We know that there will be quite strong backwards compatibility across several generations of Xbox, so the Xbox Series X will definitely have games to play when it launches.

But it will launch at the same time as the PS5, so Xbox will need to make sure it has a solid line of games to keep the Sony console at bay. So these are all the Xbox Series X games that have been confirmed to hit the console, as well as some that we hope will be announced.

Halo Infinite

This is the big one. Halo games have been associated with Xbox since Halo Combat Evolved launched with the original Xbox in 2001. But the series began to lose popularity with Halo 5 Guardians, with the campaign featuring a story that some Halo fans were not interested in.

So the Halo series is due to a game that catapults her back to popularity, beyond Halo: The Master Chief Collection. And Halo Infinite could be that game.

We don’t know much about this other than a launch trailer and some footage that could be the opening of the game. The latter shows that the next Halo will look graphically brilliant, but it doesn’t offer much in terms of how the game will be played.

Current speculation suggests that the upcoming Halo could return to the iconic Halo rings and open environments that made fighting in the arenas of Combat Evolved, Halo 3, and Halo Reach a joy.

We’d be pretty sure the next Halo will come with a serious set of multiplayer modes, from deathmatches and king of the hill modes, to perhaps something like a custom co-op campaign or mini-missions as seen with Halo 4’s Spartan Ops. And since Microsoft is committed to releasing all Xbox games on Windows 10, there is likely to be a cross-platform game between Xbox Series X players and PC gamers.

Halo Infinite is most likely a launch title for Xbox Series X, and that could be the console’s killer app.

Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt Red’s Blade Runner meets Deus Ex and sci-fi game The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, will be released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. But it will also launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X when consoles come out.

For Xbox Series X, CD Projekt Red has confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will have enhanced graphics features. We’re not sure what they will be, but we expect higher resolution output and ray tracing support. Xbox Series X users will get an upgraded version of Cyberpunk 2077 through Microsoft’s Smart Delivery system if they purchased the game for Xbox One.

Gears 5

Gears 5 is out now on Xbox One X and Windows 10, but Microsoft showed what the game looks like on Xbox Series X hardware. It will come with improved performance and visuals, and possibly some additional content, but otherwise, it’s likely that be as always for Gears 5.

Senua Saga: Hellblade II

Microsoft used the Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II trailer to accompany its reveal of the Xbox Series X console design at The Game Awards 2019 last December. It showed a dark Nordic fantasy setting with protagonist Senua singing in what appeared to be a pseudo-Viking ritual, but no video of the game was shown.

We hope that the Hellblade sequel will follow in the footsteps of its predecessor by combining third-person melee combat with adventure, and continue with the description of mental illness. Microsoft’s Xbox Game Studios owns Ninja Theory, so Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II will be an exclusive series for Xbox Series X and PC.

Watch Dogs Legion

Xbox Series X - Watch Dogs Legion could harness the power of the console

Focused on Ubisoft hackers, Watch Dogs promised a sleek open-world cybercrime game with a moral compass. But it did not hit the target; its predecessor did a little better. However, Watch Dogs Legion seems to be something a bit special. Its main objective is that it will take place in a future post-Brexit London, where anyone can join a legion of hackers in a form of revolution to recover England’s capital from an authoritarian regime.

The third game in the Watch Dogs series was expected to come out in late 2019, but was delayed without a confirmed release date. As such, there is a good chance that it may be a next-gen Xbox Series X and PS5 game, especially since it looks like it will take a great deal of power to build a great open world where any character can effectively become a player character.

Rainbow Six Siege and Rainbow Six Quarantine

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege has proven to be very popular as a competitive shooter, receiving significant support and regular updates from Ubisoft. Therefore, it is no wonder that the game is transferred to the Xbox Series X, probably with improved graphics, resolution and frame rates.

Rainbow Six Quarantine, a spin-off independent of the original game, is also slated to hit Microsoft’s next game console, allowing people to mix tactical shooting action with zombie survival tension. The game is also slated for the PS5, but nothing is known about the cross-platform game yet.

Warframe

Digital Extremes’ popular massively multiplayer third-person shooter meets the role-playing game that debuted in 2013. But as the years passed, it has improved considerably and attracted 50 million players in 2019.

And it’s now destined for the Xbox Series X, as TechRadar notes. We’re not sure what to expect from a next-gen port, but the improved graphics and performance would be a wise bet, and cross-platform gaming with the older PC and console version might be up for grabs.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum

We really don’t know much about The Lord of the Rings from Daedalic Entertainment: Gollum, other than that, the game will focus on the most twisted character in The Lord of the Ring and will be for the next generation consoles.

The developer’s CEO Carsten Fichtelmann said the game will involve addressing the decisions of Gollum’s personalities from Smeagol and Gollum. The game is slated for release in 2021, so more information is likely to emerge as 2020 progresses.

Ultimate Fishing Simulator 2

Ultimate Fishing Simulator 2 is the sequel to the hit fishing game Ultimate Fishing Simulator, and is slated for a 2021 release on the Xbox Series X, in addition to having a PC release.

As expected, it will feature improved graphics over its predecessor. More surprising is that there will be fish AI, presumably to make catching an elusive trout more difficult. A third-person view and dynamic water system are also expected in the sequel.

Battlefield 6

Battlefield 6 is on the way, and EA has confirmed that it will hit next-gen consoles. Since the game has been cross-platform in the past, it is likely to come out on Xbox Series X, PS5, and PC.

Developer DICE hasn’t said what time Battlefield 6 will take place, but it could continue into WWII setup since Battlefield V. There’s no release date, but EA’s financial folks have previously said a new Battlefield game. “boost growth” in 2011 and 2022.

WRC 9

While Forza 4 Horizon could be the automotive poster for Xbox One X, WRC 9 could be the car game for Xbox Series X. Like its predecessors, it takes place at the FIA World Rally Championship and is likely to be Benefit from next-gen power graphics to deliver realistic cars with all the real grime and damage rally that causes them.

WRC 9 will have meetings in New Zealand, Kenya and Japan, which are races scheduled for the 2020 WRC calendar, although they may not continue if the coronavirus crisis continues.

Outriders

A new console wouldn’t be complete without a cooperative shooting game, so that’s where People Can Fly’s Outriders comes in. “Holiday 2020” is slated to arrive, which means it could be a launch title for Xbox Series X and PS5.

There isn’t much information on Outriders beyond that it will settle in “a dark and desperate original science fiction universe.” That makes it look like a game that crosses Mass Effect with Game of Thrones, but we’ll have to wait and see how it turns out. This third-person shooter game from the people behind Bulletstorm seeks to combine frantic action with loot and upgrade systems, which is why we’re excited to see how it plays on Xbox Series X.

Gods and monsters

Gods and Monsters is a new Ubisoft IP that combines Ancient Greece with an action-adventure game, and looks a bit like an Ubisoft version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

It is an open world game based on the objective of saving the gods of ancient Greece from a great evil called Typhon. Naturally, you can expect a good fight with monsters drawn from Greek mythology, such as the Hydras, the Harpies and the strange Cyclops or two.

Machine Orphan

Clearly drawing inspiration from Ecco the Dolphin games, Orphan of the Machine is a side scrolling adventure game that puts the player in the shoes (flippers) of a dolphin. And since it has only been confirmed for the Xbox Series X, it could be an exclusive title for the Microsoft console.

There’s no word on the release date or much more information other than a video clip showing the game in action. But it seems to involve opening treasure chests and destroying the enemy’s marine life with what appears to be an armed sonar pulse.

Dying Light 2

Polish developer Techland confirmed that the survival game Zombie Dying Light 2 will come to Xbox Series X. E3 2019 gave us a deeper insight into the game in action, but its release for the current generation of consoles has been delayed as the developer polishes rough edges.

What extras Xbox Game X will get from the game have yet to be revealed. But just like other cross-generation games, we expect it to come with a set of graphical enhancements, as well as a performance boost.

Gothic

It’s been a long time since the last time a gothic game appeared, but developer THQ Nordic plans to bring back the cult game starting in 2011. And it’s coming to the Xbox Series X.

Beyond the teaser teaser trailer, there’s not much to start here, but THQ Nordic said the Gothic remake will remain true to the original material from the original Gothic. So we can look forward to an RPG based on a dark and sandy fantasy world. But we don’t expect to see it on the Xbox Series X until at least 2021.

Other Xbox Series X games to expect

Xbox Series X games: A new Fable game could appear on Microsoft's new game console

There are plenty of unconfirmed games that we wouldn’t be surprised to see on the Xbox Series X. Bethesda’s next Elder Scrolls game, which has only had the fewest jokes, is sure to hit the Xbox series. X, as is the mysterious science fiction game from Bethesda Starfield.

Rockstar’s upcoming Grand Theft Auto game is likely to be a next-gen console game as well, and will therefore hit Xbox Series X as Red Dead Redemption 2 keeps Rockstar on current consoles.

We’d be pretty sure Final Fantasy 7 Remake will also jump from current consoles to next-gen machines, with improved graphics and performance, and hopefully some additional content.

Since Microsoft owns Rare, it wouldn’t surprise us at all if its nature-based game Everwild, which is in the early stages of development, hits Xbox Series X as an exclusive. Speaking of exclusives, there is a rare chance that a new Fable game could finally return to Xbox as an exclusive console. And we wouldn’t be surprised to see a new Forza game as another Xbox Series X exclusive to showcase the power of the console.

We still haven’t seen a great showcase of what games we can expect on the Xbox Series X. But as the release of “Holiday 2020” gets closer, Microsoft is sure to reveal many more games for its next-gen console.
