The revised rules of the ICC World Trials Championship did not hurt the Indian cricket team’s ranking on the points table after New Zealand defeated Pakistan by 101 runs in Test 1 on Wednesday. While Australia continues to hold the number one spot with 8 wins in 12 games (4 series), the Kiwis remain in third place with 6 wins in 10 (5 series) following their triumph at the Bay Oval on Wednesday. India, for its part, remains in second place with 8 wins in 11 games (5 series).

Why is India ranked below Australia?

After several bilateral series, part of the World Testing Championship schedule, had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak around the world, the ICC decided to review the mechanism used to calculate the ranking of teams on the points table. . Under the new structure, the WTC ranking is now formulated using the percentage of points earned by teams.

According to the current ranking, Australia has the best PCT of 0.766, while India follows with 0.72 and New Zealand is third with 0.66. The percentages are calculated based on the points obtained by the total number of points in play.
