  • Tests showed that Ganguly had suffered a mild heart attack and had blockages in 3 coronary arteries.

Woodlands Hospital Executive Director Rupali Basu assured everyone Sunday that former India captain Sourav Ganguly is absolutely fine as he recovers from a right coronary angioplasty he underwent after being admitted with chest pain on Saturday. .

Ganguly was exercising on his treadmill at 11 a.m. when he began to feel discomfort in his chest and was immediately transferred to Woodlands Hospital in Kolkata. The hospital said tests showed that he had suffered a mild heart attack and that the BCCI president had blockages in three coronary arteries.

He underwent angioplasty at 3 pm on the “culprit main artery” that was revascularized with a stent, Dr. Basu acknowledged.

“It’s absolutely fine, I met him this morning and spoke to him. He has his wife Dona, his brother Snehasish and his wife by his side. He was spending time with them, he had just had breakfast the moment I met him.

“Okay, he looks good, maybe a little tired from the way I would normally see him. I don’t think there is any risk to his health at the moment.

“He was doing his gym at 11 o’clock at home when this cardiac event happened. And then he came to the hospital at 1 p.m. yesterday and then we did his research. We found that his heart is not doing the right thing.

“We had to do an angioplasty and his main culprit artery, which is the right coronary artery, has now been revascularized with a stent. But then there are 2 more blockages of this type in 2 more arteries that need to be revascularized, which is the process that we have done. we have to do now, “Dr. Basu told Boria Majumdar and Deep Dasgupta on Sports Today.

Dr. Basu added that Ganguly will be able to resume his normal life in another 3-4 weeks once the two remaining blocked arteries are revascularized.

“I don’t think we are considering surgery at this time because of his young age and the advancement of angioplasty. But we are taking expert opinions from the best cardiologists in the country and the world and then we will have to take a call.” on what to do with the 2 blocked arteries and once that is done another 3-4 weeks off and he should go back to his active life and that’s what we want Dada to get back to his active life, “Dr. Basu said.
