A romantic proposal ended in disaster for a couple when the woman fell off a 200-meter cliff after saying “yes.” According to the news website Bild, the incident occurred shortly after a 27-year-old man proposed to his girlfriend in Carinthia, Austria.
The 32-year-old woman accepted the proposal moments before slipping and falling off Falkert Mountain on December 27. The couple had climbed the mountain the day before.
Miraculously, the unidentified woman survived the 650-foot fall from the cliff, thanks to snow interrupting her fall.
Her partner, who tried to catch her, also lost her balance and fell 50 feet through the air. He stood on the edge of a cliff. Fortunately, both were rescued after the woman was found immobile by a passerby, who contacted emergency services. Her fiancé, meanwhile, had to be rescued by a helicopter from the edge of the cliff she was clinging to.
“They were both very lucky! If it hadn’t been for the snow, it would have turned out very different,” said a police officer at the scene, according to the Daily Mail.
The two received medical treatment and the man was diagnosed with a vertebrate fracture.
This is not the first time a romantic proposal has gone wrong. In September, a man’s marriage proposal was ruined by a runaway boat that sent him into the water.
