Eleven more people died from Covid-19 coronavirus disease in West Bengal, bringing the death toll in the state to 99, authorities said.

At least 108 more people have tested positive for the virus in the state, bringing the number of confirmed cases to 1,786, Interior Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay said on Saturday. The state has recorded 527 new cases and 38 deaths in the past seven days.

Thirteen of the 23 districts of West Bengal have reported new cases of Covid-19 in the past week, and the worst affected city is Kolkata. It is mainly due to the sharp increase in numbers in Calcutta that the Bengal chart is also increasing.

In total, 911 people tested positive in Kolkata and 116 of them died, with 64 deaths attributed to Covid-19 and 52 to comorbidity.

The situation is most critical in municipalities number 1 to 9 that extend north and center of Kolkata and parts of southern Kolkata, and municipality 15 in west Kolkata, which mainly covers the Garden Reach area. Of the total of 326 containment areas in the city, 255 are located between neighborhoods 1 and 90 of the total of 144 neighborhoods of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.

The Center had recently raped the state government over its management of Covid-19, which it said was characterized by a very low test rate in proportion to the population and the highest mortality rate in the country, at 13.2 percent. .

The state government, however, said fewer active cases were detected in the first few days due to lack of infrastructure, and this resulted in an apparently high death rate in the state.

Regarding the return of migrant workers and pilgrims trapped in other states, the Interior Minister said that the state government is taking the necessary measures.
