To boost the rural economy, the Madhya Pradesh government is ready to set up a cow cabinet, which includes officials from seven different government departments, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced.
Their first meeting is scheduled for November 22 on the eve of Gopasthami, a festival dedicated to Lord Krishna and the cows at a gau-abhyaran or cow shrine in Agar-Malwa. According to Deepak Vijayvargiya, chief spokesperson for the BJP in Madhya Pradesh, the decision aims to develop an alternative source of rural employment by harnessing the potential of cows and the resources available through it.
The departments that will be part of the cow cabinet include Livestock, Forest Department, Panchayat and Rural Development, Income, Household Department along with the Kisan-Kalyan department.
“Industrialization cannot be the only solution to generate employment. The economy surrounding cows is sustainable and lasts for more than 2000 years. Through this cabinet, the government will provide sustainable infrastructure to develop a cow economy to increase income in the rural environment, ”he said.
He further added that a cow-centered economy in the rural setting will also prove to be green.
