With a record 9,894 new Covid-19 cases, Karnataka’s count exceeds 4.5 lakh-mark


Karnataka on Sunday reported its highest single-day peak in new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the state’s overall tally to more than 4.5 lakh since the outbreak.

With a record 9,894 patients confirming positive for the virus today, Karnataka’s total number of positives has now reached 4,59,445, according to data from the health bulletin.

Along with that, the death toll reached 7,265 with 104 deaths, he said.

Total infections comprised 3,52,958 discharges, including 8,402 on Sunday, while there were 99,203 active cases in the state, including 807 in the ICU, the department said in a statement.

The largest previous peak in a single day was recorded on September 2 with 9,860 cases.

As of September 13 at night, a total of 4,59,445 positive COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in the state, including 7,265 deaths and 3,52,958 discharges, the Health department said in its bulletin.

He said that of 99,203 active cases, 98,396 patients were isolated in designated hospitals and are stable, while 807 were in ICU.

Up to 45 of the total 104 deaths reported on Sunday were from Bengaluru Urban, followed by Mysuru (15), Ballari (8), Dharwad (7), Shivamogga (5), Hassan (4), Dakshina Kannada, Koppal and Tumakuru. (3), Gadag, Kolar and Raichur (2), and Chikkaballapura, Davangere, Haveri, Uttara Kannada and Vijayapura (1).

Most of the dead had a history of severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) or influenza-like illness (ILI).

Among the districts where new cases were reported, Bengaluru Urban accounted for 3,479, followed by Mysuru (665), Ballari (661), Hassan (426), Dakshina Kannada (404), Belagavi (318), Shivamogga (299), Tumakuru ( 294), Koppal (259) and Mandya (246), followed by others.

The increase in cases was led by the urban district of Bengaluru, which recorded 3,479 new infections and 45 deaths.

The city has cumulatively reported 1,70,662 cases and 2,436 deaths due to the coronavirus.

As many as 67,955 tests were conducted in the southern state on Sunday, bringing the total so far to 38 lakh, the department added.
