With 26,567 Fresh Covid-19 Cases, India Records Lowest Daily Count in 5 Months; Counting crosses 97 lakh


India on Tuesday recorded the lowest number of cases in five months – 26,567 in the past 24 hours, government data shows. The daily case count fell amid preparations to start vaccinating high-risk groups.

With new cases, the general coronavirus the tally has crossed 97 lakh-mark- 97,03,770, while the death toll rose to 1,40,958 with 385 new deaths, data updated by the ministry at 8 am showed. A committee of experts from the Central Medicines Standards Control Organization (CDSCO) will meet on Wednesday to review applications from Pfizer, Serum Institute of India and Bharat Biotech seeking emergency use authorization for their COVID-19 vaccine candidates.
