With 1,089 new cases, Maharashtra’s Covid-19 account breaks the 19,000 mark

The total number of new cases of coronavirus in Maharashtra soared more than 19,000 today after 1,089 more patients were declared positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours. The state currently has 19,063 coronavirus cases since the outbreak, an official with the health minister said.

The death toll in the state also rose to 731 after 37 more people died from the highly contagious disease, he said.

Of the 1,089 new cases, Mumbai only registered 748 new patients as of yesterday, bringing the city’s count to 11,967. Along with that, 25 new deaths were also reported in the city, increasing the death toll to 462.

In addition, 2,589 patients in Mumbai have so far recovered.

In addition to that, Dharavi, the largest slum in Asia, reported 25 new cases. The Covid-19 count in that area is now 808, while the death toll is 26, BMC reported.

On the other hand, the Pune district recorded 111 new cases and nine more deaths in the past 24 hours, increasing the count to 2,575 and the number of deaths to 143, the health department said.

Up to 3,470 patients have recovered in the state since the outbreak.

At an earlier press conference, Maharashtra’s chief minister Uddhav Thackeray admitted today that there was still no success in breaking the virus ‘chain’ in the state.

Meanwhile, India registered more than 3,000 new coronavirus cases per second day, as the total number of coronavirus cases in the country increased to 56,342, according to data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The death toll in India increased to 1,886 with over 100 people dying in the past 24 hours.
