Sandhya, an employee who allegedly did not receive her overtime pay, said the money was compensated by the company on Friday. “I was owed 16,000 rupees in overtime pay. This included the days that I worked at festivals. They gave me the money yesterday (Friday), ”he said.
On December 12, dozens of workers at the Wistron plant in Kolar vandalized the factory after the company failed to pay the workers and deducted their wages. After initially mourning the conspiracy and reports suggesting that the company was likely to reverse expansion plans, the investigation of the event found that Wistron had violated various labor laws.
Wistron also admitted Saturday that some workers did not receive the correct or punctual payment. Having increased the number of workers in recent months, Wistron said it made mistakes as it expanded and recognized that some of the processes it put in place to manage labor agencies and payments need to be strengthened and updated.
It has removed Vincent Lee, Vice President (Innovation Business Group) of Wistron Infocomm Manufacturing India as a disciplinary measure and has also established a 24-hour complaint hotline in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and English to ensure that all workers can express any concerns they may have, anonymously.
Wistron is also facing probation from its contractor Apple, which said it found that Wistron violated its ‘Supplier Code of Conduct’ by failing to implement proper working hours management processes, leading to delayed payments for some workers. in October and November.
Wistron will not receive any business from Apple until corrective measures are in place. Apple employees, along with independent auditors, will monitor Wistron’s progress.
