Wipro and METRO AG sign digital and IT agreement


New Delhi: Major software services company Wipro Ltd announced on Tuesday an IT and digital strategic partnership agreement with German wholesaler METRO AG, in an agreement that is expected to generate revenue of more than Rs 1 billion per year for the Bengaluru-based company.

The estimated value of the operation for the duration of the first 5 years is approximately $ 700 million. Intended to extend it up to four more years, it can be a potential expense of up to $ 1 billion, Wipro said.

As part of the agreement, more than 1,300 employees from the wholesaler’s IT units in Germany, Romania and India will relocate to Wipro. The IT student said it will provide them with new opportunities to advance their careers, access innovation, work with leading digital technologies, and embrace new ways of working that enable agility, speed and scale in engineering.

Wipro will deliver a complete technology, engineering and solutions transformation program for METRO as it positions itself as a 360 degree wholesale supplier to the hotel, restaurant and catering food industry driven by quality, focus and flexibility.

Wipro’s transformation program will span cloud, data center services, workplace, and network services, along with application development and operations to provide a robust, flexible and integrated digital infrastructure to help drive METRO’s transformation agenda.

At the heart of the association is the formation of a joint Transformation Office and Innovation Council that will guide companies through transformation and ensure collaborative innovation throughout the association.

The acquisition is expected to be completed on or before April 30, 2021.
