Amid the increase in Covid-19 cases in the national capital, the Uttar Pradesh government said today that it will screen people coming from Delhi by plane, bus or train, the ANI news agency reported.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary RK Tiwari also added that the state government was discussing the number of people allowed to attend weddings or events to contain the spread of Covid in the state.
Currently, the state government has decided to reimpose the restriction of allowing only 100 guests to weddings and other social functions from its previous relaxation of 200 guests, in light of the growing number of COVID-19 cases in the state.
A few days ago, the Uttar Pradesh government ordered random tests for people traveling from Delhi to Noida, on the Noida border. This move came after the massive increase in covid cases in Delhi.
Meanwhile, high-level teams from the central government have moved to four more states, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, and Himachal Pradesh, to help state governments address the Covid-19 situation.
All four states have reported an increase in the number of active cases or have shown an increase in new cases daily, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said.
Previously, high-level teams were sent to Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Manipur and Chhattisgarh.
With 24 recent COVID-19 deaths in Uttar Pradesh, the death toll from the disease rose to 7,524 in the state, while total cases rose to 5,24,223 with 2,326 new infections, authorities said on Saturday.
On the other hand, the national capital has 39,741 active cases of the disease as of Saturday, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. So far, a total of 4.75,106 recoveries and 8,270 deaths have been registered in the national capital.
