Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) leader and Haryana Senior Deputy Minister Dushyant Chautala said Thursday that he will resign from his post in the state government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) if he cannot guarantee a minimum price of support (MSP ) for the acquisition of crops from farmers.
“The national president of our party has already made it clear that the MSP must be guaranteed to farmers. The written proposals delivered by the central government to protesting farmers include a provision for MSP. I will work to secure the MSP for farmers while I am in power. I will resign from my position the day I cannot fulfill the promise, ”said Chautala while addressing the media.
He expressed his hope that the stalemate between farmers and the central government will end soon and said he is in constant contact with Union ministers on the issue.
“Chaudhary Devi Lal used to say that the government only listens to the farmers until the moment when the farmers have a partnership in the government. Today, my party and I constantly put the opinions of farmers in front of the Center. I am in contact with the Minister of the Union by phone and I present my views on possible solutions to the problem of farmers, “said the main deputy minister.
In addition, he said that the Haryana government has purchased a record amount of millet and other crops, except rice, this year from MSP and assured that in the coming years also the state government will acquire all MSP grains and seeds from farmers.
