Yediyurappa said he has called for the suspended Legislative Council to be convened as “important issues” must be discussed in the Council.
Karnataka’s Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said on Friday that the state government would enact an ordinance for the draft law against slaughter of cattle in 2-3 days. “Since the Legislative Council is not cooperating, we will take the ordinance route,” Yediyurappa said. He also requested that the closed Legislative Council be convened on December 15 and 16 to deliberate on pending issues.
Yediyurappa spoke to the media outside her official ‘Cauvery’ residence after performing Gau Puja together with members of her family. He questioned the decision of the president of the Legislative Council to declare the session closed when there were issues that needed to be deliberated.
“We are convening two more days of the Legislative Session starting Tuesday next week. I wrote to Governor Vajubhai Vala requesting his approval. How can the President declare sine die (procedures suspended without a precise date to reconvene? ) when there are important issues to discuss? “he questioned, adding that President Pratapchandra Shetty’s decision was unjustified. Yediyurappa said the party would like to discuss the anti-slaughter bill in the Council.
Yediyurappa said that the Legislative Council Business Advisory Committee meeting had decided that the session should be held until December 15, when the Council session began earlier this week on December 8. President Pratapchandra Shetty was also part of this decision. We were in favor of continuing the session to complete the work. But it has ended abruptly. We will call for a two-day session starting Tuesday, “he added.
Yediyurappa said that the president’s announcement of the postponement was a tactic to avoid the vote of no confidence filed in the Council against Pratapchandra Shetty. The BJP had submitted the notice to the president in accordance with the rules a fortnight ago, he said.
Despite the signatory members of the BJP, Ayanooru Manjunath repeatedly demanded the president to take note of his notice from Wednesday onwards, it was not mentioned on the agenda until Thursday.
However, the contentious bill to ban the slaughter of cows in the state was included in the list, but the BJP did not introduce it and instead demanded that Shetty take the vote of no confidence first. Members of Congress opposed this, stating that the House cannot address an issue that is not mentioned on the agenda.
At this juncture, Council Leader Kota Sreenivasa Poojari and Senior Deputy Minister Lakshman Savadi repeatedly appealed to President Shetty that the bill to ban the slaughter of cows could be taken up again on Friday as the minister in question, Prabhu Chauhan, was absent. there to present the bill.
While members of Congress and the BJP were still arguing over the matter, Shetty announced that the House was adjourned sine die.
