Speculation abounds in political circles that national congressional spokesman Khushbu Sundar could jump to the BJP on Monday in what could be a significant step ahead of assembly elections in the home state of Tamil Nadu next year.
A senior BJP leader with knowledge of the events said Khushbu will meet with the party’s core team in New Delhi on Monday in the presence of Tamil Nadu unit chairman L Murugan.
“The discussions are still continuing. It is almost an agreement, but the final modalities are still being worked out. There will be clarity by Monday and an announcement is expected,” said the source.
At the Chennai airport on Sunday, the actress and politician declined to comment on whether she was traveling to Delhi to join the BJP. When asked if he was still in Congress, Khushbu said: “I don’t want to talk about anything.”
He was in New Delhi the first week of October. On October 6, when asked if he was joining the BJP, Khusbhu denied it, saying that “someone is spending Rs 2 per tweet to spread the rumors.”
However, a cryptic tweet posted on Saturday fueled the rumors. “Many see a change in me. Well, as you get older, evolve and grow, learn and unlearn, perceptions change … understand the difference between right and wrong. Change is inevitable (sic), ”he tweeted.
Many see a change in me. Well, as you age, evolve, grow, learn and unlearn, perceptions change, likes and dislikes too, thoughts and ideas take a new shape, dreams are new, you understand the difference between liking and loving, between good and evil. Change is inevitable. Happy eve ❤️ pic.twitter.com/on1B4bHx30

Khushbu Sundar had first sparked rumors of a break with Congress in July when she endorsed the new National Education Policy of the BJP-governed Center, drawing the ire of her party’s Tamil Nadu unit, which accused her of ” indiscipline”.
Khushbu refused to be a “nodding robot or puppet”, and later stood firm in his support for the NEP and apologized to party leader Rahul Gandhi for his contrary views. She, however, had denied the rumors of joining the BJP at the time.
The prominent actress, who has 200 movies, soap operas and TV shows under her belt, entered politics in 2010, joining the DMK that ruled Tamil Nadu at the time. After a break with the party leadership, Khushbu Sundar passed to Congress in 2014.
