Why is DMK making a problem about income tax raids, asks Chief Minister Palaniswami

Chennai:

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami asked on Saturday why DMK leaders were making a big deal out of a raid on the home of the party chief’s daughter, MK Stalin, and said there is nothing to fear if not there is nothing to hide.

Several AIADMK officials, including some ministers, have also been assaulted by Income Tax officials “but we are not saying anything,” he said.

Incidentally, the AIADMK on Saturday moved the EC against the searches, saying they were “unwanted” and that they were allegedly carried out at the behest of Congress and the DMK.

“But the DMK is making a big deal out of IT officials conducting searches at Stalin’s daughter’s house. If you have nothing to hide, why are you afraid?” Palaniswami asked while addressing an election rally.

The DMK lashed out at the BJP-led Center on Friday over searches conducted by Income Tax officials at the residence of Senthamarai, Stalin’s daughter, in Chennai, claiming there was a “political target” behind the action. .

The raids on Senthamarai and others were aimed at verifying the “distribution of political cash” in Tamil Nadu, which is at the polls, sources at the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said.

Palaniswami further said that IT officials carry out information-based checks and referred to those searches at the premises of AIADMK officials, including Higher Education Minister KP Anbalagan.

He asked whether Senthamarai belongs to a royal household and whether searches can be made at his home. In a democratic country, searches can be carried out anywhere, the prime minister added.
