Why Delhi’s Akansha Singh lost first place to Soyeb

NEW DELHI : The National Testing Agency on October 16 declared the result of the 2020 National Cum Entry Eligibility Test (NEET). The NEET results are now available on the official NTA website: nta.ac.in and ntaneet. nic.in.

Candidates, who took the entrance exam on September 13 and the NEET phase two exam on October 14, had to answer 180 multiple-choice questions to earn 720 points. For answering each question correctly, candidates received 4 points and 1 point was deducted for each incorrect answer.

However, NTA used a tiebreaker formula to assess the candidates’ rankings in case two of them scored the same.

What is this ‘tiebreaker formula’

The tiebreaker policy considers factors such as age, grades by subject and the number of wrong answers on the NEET test, according to officials.

If two or more candidates scored the same, the one with the highest scores in Biology (Botany and Zoology) will have preference in the ranking.

Therefore, even if there is a tie after calculating the Biology scores, the candidates who scored higher in Chemistry will get preference.

Now, applicants with the fewest number of wrong answers in all subjects on the NEET test will also gain an advantage.

Finally, if the tie persists, the older NEET 2020 candidates will be preferred.

Speaking on the matter, an official told the PTI news agency, “Soyeb Aftab from Odisha and Akansha Singh from Delhi scored perfect 720 on the NEET exam. However, as Aftab is older, he has been ranked in the top of the national classification ranking. “

“The candidate’s classification is initially determined based on the scores obtained in Biology and Chemistry. Then, in cases where candidates cannot be shortlisted using the scores obtained in the exam, candidates are subsequently shortlisted taking into account the number of answers that are incorrect, after which they are preselected depending on their age. The oldest gets the preference, “added the official.
