NEW DELHI: Leader of Congress and former Minister of Finance of the Union P Chidambaram Wednesday slammed the central government for failing to reveal the names of PM CARES FUND donors and questioning “Why are the trustees afraid” to do so?
“PM CARES FUND auditors have confirmed that the Fund received Rs 3,076 crore in just 5 days between March 26 and March 31, 2020,” he said in a tweet.
“But the names of these generous donors will not be disclosed. Why? All other NGOs or Trusts are required to disclose the names of donors who contribute more than a minimal amount. the PM CARES FUND exempt from this obligation? The donee is known. The trustees of the donee are known. Why are trustees afraid to reveal the names of donors? “Said the leader of Congress in another tweet.
Prime Minister is the ex-officio chairman of the PM CARES Fund and the Minister of Defense, the Minister of the Interior and the Minister of Finance, the Government of India are ex-officio trustees of the Fund.
