New Delhi: A 65-year-old priest committed suicide near the Singhu border in Delhi on Wednesday, police said. He has been identified as Sant Baba Ram Singh from the village of Singhra in the Nissing area of the Karnal district of Haryana. The religious preacher also left a suicide note in which he says he was unable to see the ordeal of farmers who are sitting on the outskirts of the national capital protesting the recently passed farm laws. According to his suicide letter, he shot himself because he could not bear the “pain of the farmers.” The note is being verified by the police. A Sonipat police official said they had received a call in which Sant Ram Singh allegedly shot himself. The official said that the exact place where the incident occurred is being verified and that the police are in the process of recording the statements of the relatives of the deceased. Sant Baba Ram Singh, was a religious preacher with a following throughout Haryana and Punjab and also held a position in many Sikh organizations, including Haryana SGPC, according to a report by India Today.
Sant Baba Ram Singh’s handwritten note read: “I have witnessed the plight of farmers, who are on the streets, fighting for their rights. It hurts me to see that the government is not doing them justice. It’s a crime. It is a sin to oppress and it is a sin to suffer ”.
“Nobody did anything against oppression and for the rights of farmers. Many even expressed their protest by returning awards, “he said.
“This servant immolates himself against government oppression [and] in favor of farmers. That [The act] It is the voice against oppression and the voice for farmers, ”read the suicide note written in Punjabi.
SAD spokesperson and chairman of the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, expressed regret over the incident and urged farmers to exercise restraint.

According to Sirsa, the victim wrote in her suicide note that she could not bear the “pain of the farmers”.

Sirsa appealed to farmers to exercise restraint.

Thousands of farmers from Punjab, Haryana and other states have been protesting near Delhi’s borders for the past three weeks, demanding that the Center’s agricultural laws be repealed.
