On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his speech at the virtual world celebrations of Vesak on the occasion of Buddha Purnima, cited the relevance of Lord Gautama Buddha’s teachings at a time when the world is facing a crisis such as coronavirus disease (Covid-19) and urged the public to honor the victims and frontline warriors of the pandemic.
“Lord Buddha became his own visionary and showed others the path to enlightenment,” he said.
The prime minister said that the growth of the nation would also help guide global development, and India is constantly working to help other countries and is also committed to doing so in the future.
“As we make every effort to save each and every life of our citizens from the scourge of Covid-19; India is also meeting its global responsibilities, “he added.
“Every word and preaching of the Lord Buddha reinforces India’s commitment to serve humanity,” he said.
The Prime Minister called on the public not to give up and continue to face the challenge together to defeat the pandemic.
He cited the examples of Covid-19 frontline workers and asked to honor their resilience.
“During this difficult time, there are several people around us who work tirelessly to help others and sacrifice their own comforts. These people deserve our honor and appreciation,” he added.
