WhatsApp for Android beta update brings redesigned storage usage section to testers

WhatsApp has released a new beta version for Android devices that brings a redesigned Storage Usage section for testing purposes. Some screenshots showing the update appeared on the web last month. WhatsApp 2.20.201.9 beta for Android is the first version to offer a look at the redesigned Storage Usage section that makes it easier for users to manage their storage. The section includes a modern storage bar to detail the space consumed by WhatsApp media files. You will also be able to view large files received through the application.

As reported by WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo, the updated beta version of WhatsApp for Android is slowly bringing the redesigned storage usage section to beta testers. However, the feature is not available to all beta testers initially.

The feature tracker initially leaked the redesigned storage usage section in June and reached its current status last month. It has a modern storage bar at the top with details about the portion of space consumed by media files shared through WhatsApp. There are also specific listings for forwarded files and large files at Settings > Data usage and storage > Storage usage > Suggested cleaning option.

Users can sort forwarded files and large files by date or size. The update also helps users to quickly delete their unimportant forwarded files and files that consume a large storage space on their phones.

The Storage Usage section also lists individual chats and groups, organized according to their storage size. There is also a search function that allows users to find particular chats or groups from the list.

WhatsApp hasn’t provided any details on when it will bring the redesigned Storage Usage section to users in a public release. However, if you are using its beta version on your Android device, you can search for the update on Google Play or download the latest version from APK Mirror.

It should be noted that the redesigned Storage Usage section is not available to all beta testers initially and is slowly rolling out through WhatsApp beta 2.20.201.9. So it is very likely that you will not get the new experience even after quickly updating the beta version on your phone.
