WhatsApp finally launches the ‘Always mute’ option: how to enable


The popular messaging app, WhatsApp, has finally launched its long-awaited feature by its users, where one can finally silence or mute their chats indefinitely. WhatsApp’s “Always Mute” option is now available in both the iOS and Android versions of the app.

The Facebook-owned messaging app has been working to release a stable version for quite some time, as news emerged about its operation in various beta versions. On Friday, the company officially announced the stable rollout of the “Always Mute” feature on Twitter, which can be seen as an option alongside the 8-hour and one-week options to mute a chat.

The “Always Mute” option is self-explanatory as it essentially overrides the time limit to mute a particular chat or group. With the release of the feature, users can now mute a chat indefinitely instead of the maximum limit of 1 year. This is a blessing in disguise for all those pesky chats that you never want to enjoy but would feel too rude to block.

How to enable the option ‘Always silent’ of WhatsApp:

Enabling the “Always Mute” option is pretty simple. For Android users, you need to go to WhatsApp and then open the chat you want to mute. After that, click on the three buttons in the upper right corner of the chat header and select “Mute Notifications”. You can then choose the length of time you want to mute a particular chat or group from the three available options: 8 hours, 1 week, or Always.

For iOS users, go to the chat you want to mute, select the chat header, and then tap on the Mute option. Select the duration time according to your need.

Silent notifications have a more interesting feature. The Android version of the app also gives you the option to “Show notifications” even after silencing it. This means that although the chat will be muted and no pop-up notifications will be displayed on the screen, the message will still appear in the drop-down menu of the main notification panel on Android phones. However, this feature is not available for iPhone users as such message is not reflected after enabling mute option on iOS.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp introduced new features on Thursday that allow WhatsApp Business users to sell products directly from the platform. The function will allow purchases to be made directly from a WhatsApp chat with a company. The company will also provide hosting services to small businesses through Facebook partners in the country.

While WhatsApp already charges companies to send notification messages to customers, the new services allow the platform a new opportunity to generate revenue. The company said that Facebook’s hosting solutions will require additional payments and that both businesses and customers will be aware that their data is shared with Facebook in such cases.
