The former head of the Congress party, Rahul Gandhi, criticized the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday for the ambiguity in the country’s vaccine policy, seeking clarity on it.
“PM – Everyone will get the vaccine. BJP in Bihar Elections: Everyone in Bihar will receive a free vaccine. Now, GOI- I never said that everyone would get the vaccine. Exactly what does the prime minister expect? Gandhi said in a tweet.
Gandhi’s tweet came in response to the government declaring Tuesday that it has not talked about vaccinating the entire population of the country against the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), even as India reported 9,462,809 infections and 137,621 related deaths that day. .
“I just want to make this clear that the government has never talked about vaccinating the entire country. It is important that we discuss these scientific issues, based only on factual information, ”said Rajesh Bhushan, secretary of the Union Ministry of Health.

Bhushan had also said that the average daily rate of positivity in India has been 3.72% and with 211 cases per million, India has the lowest count of cases per million “among all the great nations”. While data from the past seven days indicates that cases are increasing in European nations, the cumulative positivity rate has decreased in India, he noted. The cumulative positivity rate fell from 7.15% to 6.69% between November 11 and December 1. The number of recoveries exceeded the number of new Covid-19 infections in India in November, Bhushan added.
However, a contentious point in the BJP manifesto announced before the Bihar elections was that the vaccine would be given free of charge to everyone in the state. The promise had drawn the ire of the opposition, and the parties asked the Electoral Commission to tear it down.
