A war of words broke out between the ruling TMC government and BJP after the The convoy of BJP chief JP Nadda was allegedly attacked with stones and bricks as he made his way to Diamond Harbor in Kolkata. West Bengal’s chief minister suggested that the attack was “staged” even when several Union ministers, including Interior Minister Amit Shah and West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar, attacked the ruling party.
“Every day (the BJP activists) go out (to the demonstrations) with firearms. They slap each other and blame the Trinamool Congress. Think about the situation. They are roaming with BSF, CRPF, Army, CISF… so why are you so scared? ”Banerjee said in Kolkata, quoted by PTI.
The Union Ministry of the Interior has requested a report from the West Bengal government on the alleged “serious security breaches” during the visit of the BJP president, the circumstances and the measures that have been taken in this regard.

Several cars in Nadda’s convoy, including that of the BJP National Secretary General Kailash Vijayvargiya and the head of the West Bengal BJP, Dilip Ghosh, were damaged in the attack. About 10 BJP leaders, including Vijayvargiya and Mukul Roy, received minor injuries. Nadda called the attack “unprecedented” and claimed that the state had slipped into “total anarchy and goonda raj.”
Nadda said he was not injured while riding in a bulletproof car, but others in the convoy were assaulted. “If I have come here for the meeting it is thanks to the grace of Maa Durga … I can imagine how difficult it is for the party workers in Bengal,” he said.
Interior Minister Amit Shah said that Bengal had descended into an era of tyranny, anarchy and darkness under the Trinamool government. “Today, the national president of BJP in Bengal @JPNadda was attacked. The attack is reprehensible. The central government is taking this attack very seriously. The Bengal government will have to answer to the peace-loving people of the state for this sponsored violence, ”Shah tweeted.
“The way in which political violence has been institutionalized and taken to the extreme in West Bengal under the TMC government is sad and worrying,” Shah said.

Bengal Governor Dhankhar accused the state administration of failing to act despite alerting the secretary general and the director general of police. “Concerned by alarming reports of anarchy and anarchy @MamataOfficial indicating damage to the ruling party in the rampage against BJP Chairman Convoy and supportive @WBPolice political police,” the governor wrote.
BJP state chairman Dilip Ghosh, whose vehicle was also attacked, alleged that “Bengal has become Syria” under the TMC.
Madhya Pradesh’s chief minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, said the “cowardly act” was an attempt to assassinate democracy. Pointing to Mamata Banerjee for the incident, he said it would prove to be the “last nail in the coffin of the ruling Trinamool Congress” in Bengal, where assembly elections are due to take place in the first half of 2021.
“The people of West Bengal will give you an adequate answer by voting for the BJP. This attack will prove to be the final nail in the coffin of TMC in West Bengal, ”Chouhan said in Hindi tweets.
Union ministers Narendra Singh Tomar and Piyush Goyal also deplored the attack at a press conference on farm laws, calling it an attack on democracy in West Bengal. “The attack on our national president JP Nadda and party leader Kailash Vijayvargiya is a deplorable act. There is a total collapse of law and order in West Bengal, ”Tomar said.
