Yesterday’s IndyCar iRacing finale was a mix of chaos, controversy, and poor sportsmanship. Lando Norris was on the way to winning his second esports event at Indycar, but the Brit suffered a strange shock, without his fault. IndyCar pilot Simon Pagenaud deliberately blocked Norris in a move that can only be described as smug at best. Max Verstappen gave his opinion on the incident and had a unique solution to the incident.
Lando Norris and Max Verstappen react to Pagenaud’s actions
While he hasn’t had much luck at F1 esports events, Norris has had no problems at Indycar esports races. The Brit won a phenomenal victory in his debut with Iracing Indycar. Norris would have done it 2 for 2, if it hadn’t been for Pagenaud’s actions.
Norris had an excellent shot to start with and eventually overtook Polesitter Scott Mclaughlin as the leader. As the race progressed, Norris battled Graham Rahal and Pagenaud for the lead. The drivers were 3 ahead in a tight corner with Rahal tight between Norris and Pagenaud. The American shifted slightly to the right, causing Pagenaud to turn.
The incident infuriated the Frenchman, who decided to give Norris a sample of someone else’s medicine. Pagenaud slowed down on the track, causing a frontal collision with Norris. The Frenchman acted surprised and put on an apologetic facade when it was clear how the day the move was previously planned. As Pagenaud had announced earlier in his sequence that he would get Norris out.
Verstappen joked about the Lando broadcast: “You know what would be nice sometimes, instead of having to deal with the stewards, they should just add a boxing ring in the paddock and fight!” from r / formula1
Norris ignored the incident, but was not overly kind to Pagenaud’s actions. In response to fans on Twitch, Norris said:
“I just wanted to delay a little. “
“By stopping in the middle of the corner and braking right in front of me, so … yeah”
“What a loser”
Norris called Verstappen for his opinion on the incident. The Dutchman suggested a pugilist approach rather than relying on stewards for justice.
Speaking to Norris, Max said:
“You know what would be nice sometimes, instead of having to deal with the stewards, they should just add a boxing ring in the paddock and fight …!”
Mclaughlin finally won the victory thanks to all the chaos that occurred in the last few laps.
