Western Railway will operate 194 more trains starting October 15

Traveling through India’s financial capital will be easier as the Indian Railways Western Railway area has decided to operate an additional 194 trains for people performing essential services, as notified by the Maharashtra government on Oct 15.

The decision was made in order to maintain social distancing and avoid overcrowding amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, the Indian Railways central railway area has recently launched 22 additional special local train services in Mumbai.

Of the 22 additional new special local train services, 18 local trains are operated on the main line, while the remaining four local trains are operated on the port line. These additional special trains began operating three days ago.

Today’s development comes as Maharashtra reports 8,522 new coronavirus cases, bringing the overall count to 15,43,837, the state health department said.

A few days ago, Western Railway had decided to operate 15 more pairs of special trains, including Mumbai – Ahmedabad Tejas Express for the convenience of passengers. All trains will operate as fully booked trains. Reservation for Tejas Express is available online only on the IRCTC website and at IRCTC current counters.

Last month, the Western Railway Zone decided to increase the number of daily special suburban services operating in Mumbai from 350 to 500.

“The number of daily special suburban services will be increased from 350 to 500 on Western Railway beginning September 21 to maintain social distancing and avoid overcrowding. Essential personnel who, as notified by the state government, are requested to travel in local trains, follow social distancing and wear a mask while traveling, “Western Railway said in a statement.
