KOLKATA: The state Education deparment has asked that schools be prepared to open in short term, at least for high school students, particularly those taking the Class-X and Class-XII board exams. Although the final decision will only be made at the secretary of state, the department has asked schools to prepare for such an eventuality.
Dates for CBSE and the State Boards Class-X and Class-XII exams have already been announced and schools should reopen for students to attend practical classes and clear up questions from the boards. Schools have already opened in three states, Kerala, Karnataka and Assam, and Bihar will soon follow suit.
A senior official said the Bengal government could make an announcement in the next few days. “Government schools have been told to keep their facilities in readiness and disinfect their campuses so that in-person lab classes can begin once the government allows campuses to reopen for physical attendance by students,” the official said.
Both CBSE and West Bengal Council for Higher Secondary Education they have decided to take practical exams in March.
“We started preparations before the start of winter break. The classrooms have been cleaned up. We are also installing glass partitions to separate one student from another in the lab, ”said a school principal.
The head of St James School, TH Ireland, said schools were following government announcements with interest. “Although the CISCE has not yet released the dates for the ICSE and ISC exams, we have decided that those who sit for the board exams will be the first to return to campus,” Ireland said, adding that 25 students will be allowed to take experiments in the laboratory. at a time instead of 50.
